There was big demand in large-cap stocks, helping pushing up the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE).
Among them, Tan Tao Investment Industry Corp. (ITA) jumped 3.51 per cent, Ocean Group (OGC) 3.77 per cent, Ho Chi Minh City Infrastructure Investment (CII) hit the ceiling while Vincom Group (VIC) up 2.84 per cent.
Producing blue-chip Masan Group (MSN) soared 4.17 per cent, while Vinacafe Bien Hoa (VCF) jumped 3.05 per cent. Vinamilk (VNM) advanced 1.9 per cent.
Some petroleum companies like PetroVietnam Low Pressure Gas Distribution (PGD), Petrolimex Gas (PGC) also strongly rose.
Besides, several speculative stocks continued being boosted. Mineral stocks Lao Cai Mineral Exploitation & Processing (LCM) hit the ceiling, Nari Hamico Minerals (KSS) gained 4 per cent, Bac Giang Exploitable Mineral (BGM) was up 4.44 per cent and Binh Thuan Mineral Industry (KSA) surged 4.31 per cent.
Real estate pennies Ninh Van Bay Real Estate (NVT), Duc Long Gia Lai (DLG) and PetroVietnam-Idico Long Son Industrial Park Investment (PXL), Becamex Infrastructure Development (IJC) significantly advanced.
Nearly half the southern bourse ended up, with 140 stocks up and 76 off. Some 92 stocks stayed unchanged. The benchmark VN-Index gained 6.06 points or 1.53 per cent to end at 402.08 points.
But liquidity fell to lower level, reaching just VND357.1 billion ($17.3 million) worth of matching value. HoSE’s total liquidity was 29.6 million shares worth VND453.4 billion ($21.9 million).
ITA outperformed the bourse with 2.4 million shares matched. Hoa Sen Group (HSG) followed with just 781,000 units matched.
Whereas, Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) remained lackluster, with the benchmark HNX-Index slightly added 0.22 points or 0.36 per cent to 61.65 points. Liquidity kept very weak at 23.5 million shares worth VND214.9 billion ($10.4 million).
Stock largely kept unchanged. Some 122 stocks advanced, 68 declined while 203 ended flat. Leading stocks like VNDirect Securities (VND), Kim Long Securities (KLS) just changed some 1 per cent, while PetroVietnam Construction (PVX) ended flat.
VNDirect Securities (VND) was active the most with just 2.2 million shares matched.
