BASF Vietnam and artners build playground for students with special needs

In a press release on August 16, BASF Vietnam said the project aims to support development through outdoor play for more than 200 visually impaired students at Nguyen Dinh Chieu Special School in Ho Chi Minh City, making it easier for them to learn, grow, and integrate.

The inclusive playground, thoughtfully designed with a variety of structures, provides a safe and welcoming outdoor space for the children to play, learn, and interact with each other. Featuring environmentally friendly materials such as responsibly sourced eucalyptus wood, the playground also fosters a connection between students and nature. The installation and decoration of the equipment were completed by volunteers from BASF and its partners.

According to Erick Contreras, managing director of BASF Vietnam, creating inclusive and sustainable play environments is essential to the development of children, especially those with special needs.

BASF Vietnam started its partnership with Think Playgrounds in 2019 to help address the shortage of outdoor play areas. The initiative has benefited nearly 32,000 children to date, primarily in the outskirts of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

In addition to promoting play-based learning, the projects also prioritise sustainability. The aim is to instil a sense of environmental responsibility among the next generation by promoting sustainable materials in constructing these outdoor spaces.

Nguyen Tieu Quoc Dat, the co-founder, and PR director of Think Playgrounds, said that the company’s mission is to enhance the quality of public spaces across the country.

„This new playground holds special significance for visually impaired students, providing them with a dedicated space to play and learn. We appreciate the commitment and support of BASF Vietnam and its partners in making this vision a reality,” Dat said.

BASF Vietnam’s longstanding distribution partners who have joined hands for the anniversary year include Kieu Vuong Company, Nagase Vietnam, F.D&C Pharmaceutical, and Viet Duc Lubricants & Chemical.

BASF Vietnam has also implemented different long-term community projects focusing on educational development.

BASF Kids’ Lab, in partnership with Ho Chi Minh City's Department of Education and Training, offers hands-on activities to help children learn about chemistry, benefiting around 5,000 primary students since 2011.

BASF Virtucal Lab is an online platform that provides a variety of interactive chemistry experiments in Vietnamese for primary students to learn with just a few clicks.

The company also works closely with other partners on a school renovation programme, facilitated by Saigon Children’s Charity, building seven facilities as of today for about 750 students in remote areas of Vietnam.
