Eight leading international and local banks have been recognised by Visa at the Vietnam Bank Awards 2012 for their role in promoting electronic payments in Vietnam.

The Visa Vietnam Bank Awards is an annual event to celebrate the achievements of client banks in partnering Visa to grow electronic payments locally.

This year, the banks – HSBC, Asia Commercial Bank (ACB), Vietcombank, VietinBank, Eximbank, Sacombank, Standard Chartered Bank and United Overseas Bank (UOB) – were presented with awards for the following categories of leadership in payment volume contributions, leadership in merchant sales volume contributions, leadership in cardholder redemption of Visa promotions, leadership in E-commerce innovation, leadership in issuing innovation, and leadership in acquiring innovation.

Lorijon Bacchi, country manager for Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, Visa, said: “Vietnam is one of the fastest growing electronic payment markets in Asia Pacific and the annual Vietnam Bank Awards is our way of thanking our partners for their valuable contributions to growing the use of electronic payments throughout the country.”

“As more people realise the benefits of electronic payments, we have seen a steady rise in the number of consumers who now choose to pay with their cards instead of using cash. Consumers are using their cards to pay at a variety of payment touch points including at a point-of-sale, online and even on a mobile phone.  Through our efforts with our client banks in Vietnam, we will continue to increase the number of Visa cards, acceptance points and work with partners to roll innovative campaigns to encourage the use of electronic payments,” she said.
