Around 100 children born with cleft lip and palate deformities in four Central Highlands’ provinces of Dak Lak, DakNong, Gia Lai and Kon Tum will receive free medical check-ups and surgeries at the Tay Nguyen University Hospital from August 23 to 28, 2015.

This is the second surgery mission of 2015 organised by Amway Vietnam- part of Amway, a global leader in direct selling- in cooperation with Operation Smile to support disadvantaged children and encourage them to smile and enjoy a happy childhood.

The mission is a part of Amway’s One by One Campaign for Children with the aim to help disadvantaged children all around the world to have better lives.

The programme has been running for seven years in collaboration with Operation Smile, an international charity group that helps children with cleft palates around the world.

Since 2008, under the programme, 1,500 children have recovered their basic oral functions and have for the first time in their life been able to show the world their smile.

Statistics show that, in Vietnam one child in every 700 is born with a facial deformity. A 45-minute operation, costing approximately VND5 million ($230), will help the child to recover their basic oral functions.

In Vietnam, Amway has thus far donated VND18.4 billion ($845,000) to education and medical support projects, and lent a helping hand to 5,500 children in locations throughout the country in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of War, Invalids and Social Affairs, the Thanh Nien and Tuoi Tre newspapers and Operation Smile.

Apart from financing the One by One Campaign for Children, Amway Vietnam has also encouraged their staff and distributors working as volunteers to brace up the children’s mind.
