Work on Vietnam’s first citywide distribution system of natural gas has started in Ho Chi Minh City’s iconic township of Phu My Hung.

PVGas City, the country’s pioneer in developing and operating central gas stations and pipeline systems for urban and residential areas, commenced construction of the $2.8 million system last week. It plans to put the network into use by the second quarter of 2014, providing natural gas, as opposed to LPG, to almost 25,000 apartments in Phu My Hung in Saigon South.

The system will include central gas stations pumped to end users by 21 kilometres of pipeline. An extensive network of narrow-diametre distribution pipes will be installed. The system is expected to replace the traditional usage of 12 kilogramme-LPG cylinders that are considered to be more dangerous.

The project is part of the company’s strategy to provide natural gas, which is both more environmentally friendly and of a higher efficiency than LPG, to urban township and residential areas.

PVGas City started operations in 2007 and has since become a leader in building and operating urban gas distribution systems nationwide. It expects the landmark project in Phu My Hung to be the start of a new trend.
