South Korean electronics giant Samsung is considering investing in Vietnam’s power sector, according to a state agency.

It will survey 5 power projects in the central and southern regions of the country this month to select a good place for investment, according to the Department of Energy under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Samsung and its local consulting unit, the national Institute of Energy under the ministry, are expected to conduct a field survey of the project sites for the investment.

Specifically, the 5 projects which are under Samsung's radar are Quynh Lap 2 Power Plant (Nghe An Province), Vung Ang Power Plant 3 (Ha Tinh Province), Quang Trach 2 Power Plant (Quang Binh Province), Hau River Power Plant 3 (Hau Giang Province), and Kien Luong Power Plant (Kien Giang Province).

Earlier, in the document No.6398/VPCP-QHQT dated back to August 1, 2013, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade for study and consideration to figure out a appropriate power project for Samsung so that it can invest in.
