They are with Germany-based Uniconsult Consulting, Korean Halla Engineering & Construction Corporation and Joint Venture of Khanh Giang (Vietnam) & Dredging International Asia Pacific (Singapore) for Mekong Delta Transport Infrastructure Development Project.

The $312 million infrastructure funded by a World Bank loan and a grant from the Australian government, aims to improve traffic systems in the Mekong Delta region, minimise traffic jams on main roads and waterways, reduce costs for transportation from production areas to consumer markets and support the hunger eradication and poverty reduction.

The signed contractors are expected to dredge canals, strengthen canal banks, and build frontage roads and bridges within three years starting from August 2011.

With a coastline 700 kilometres with numerous canals and rivers that crisscross each other, the Mekong Delta has become an ideal location to develop an efficient waterway transport system.

The region is aimed to meet the demand for passenger and cargo transport by 2020, offering good quality at affordable prices. By 2030, it would be able to satisfy international standard transport needs and services.
