The project, co-sponsored with other companies, will construct new classrooms for Long Thạnh 3 Primary School, a satellite site in the remote area of Long Truong 3 hamlet, Phung Hiep district, approximately 220 kilometres away from Ho Chi Minh City.
One new classroom for 45 primary school students and two more for 25 preschoolers will be equipped with renovated hygiene facilities, which are currently heavily run-down.
BASF will also co-sponsor the renovation of a nearby kindergarten. 60 toddlers currently attend Tan Long Kindergarten. The project will equip two classrooms with built-in hygiene facilities and a 200-square metre playground.
A total of approximately 430sq.m of classroom space will be renovated, allowing about 130 students in the district to enjoy better learning facilities as well as improved hygiene and safety conditions.
Since the Saigon Children’s Charity CIO initiative was established in 1992, the “School Building and Learning Environment programme” has built more than 450 classrooms. These have benefited thousands of students from kindergarten to secondary school level.
The project will construct three classrooms, providing a conducive learning environment for about 70 students in Hau Giang province |
“At BASF we focus on our non-profit corporate citizenship activities to provide quality education,” said Tanachart Ralsiripong, managing director of BASF Vietnam. “Providing a clean, healthy learning environment is crucial to ensuring that children from needy areas can also have access to education from an early age.”
BASF Vietnam has been active in multiple community projects. In 2015, the company sponsored a kindergarten renovation project in Tap Ngai district, Tra Vinh province, benefiting about 75 students per year. Since 2015, BASF has worked with Nippon Paint, a leading paint manufacturer, to provide paint to needy schools in the Mekong Delta, benefiting 850 students in the region.
In addition, the company has offered scholarships to disadvantaged university students for four full years of studies. Since 2011, BASF has brought its global interactive education programme BASF Kids’ Lab to Vietnam on an annual basis, in partnership with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training. A total of approximately 3,000 primary school children have participated in order to learn about the fascinating world of chemistry and how it improves the quality of life and conserves natural resources.
