In order to expand the accessibility of vaccines in Vietnam, the Ministry of Health has approved the project “Enhancing the cold chain storage during vaccine transportation under the expanded immunisation programme in Vietnam for the period of 2018-2020" sponsored by Zuellig Pharma.

The company has started providing training and instruction of using eZCooler – an innovative solution in packaging and cold storage – to medical staff in six northern provinces.

On December 2, the first training session was held by the National Institute for Control of Vaccine and Biologicals in collaboration with Zuellig Pharma Vietnam in Bac Ninh province, with the participation of 40 medical staff from local preventive medicine centres.

In this training, Zuellig Pharma’s experts introduced the benefits of implementing eZCooler instead of traditional Styrofoam boxes and the proper use of eZCooler, including how to arrange vaccines correctly, setting and maintaining cold temperatures from 2 to 8 degrees Celsius, handling vaccines during transportation in different settings, especially in remote and rural areas that are far away from communal healthcare centres, as well as refrigerating vaccines in eZcooler boxes of different capacities.

Le Thi Thanh, who works at the Centre for Preventive Medicine in Yen Phong district, Bac Ninh province, said, “It is a big challenge for us to execute the expanded immunisation programme in our district. We face many difficulties to approach rural and remote areas, especially during flood season. Such situations negatively affect the storage and transportation of vaccines. I believe that eZCooler is an ideal solution for these difficulties.”

After Bac Ninh province, Zuellig Pharma plans to open training courses in Son La on December 5; Ha Giang on December 10, Yen Bai on December 12; Hai Duong on December 17, and Quang Ninh on December 18. When completing the training and instruction for 176 healthcare workers in six provinces, Zuellig Pharma will hand over all 623 eZCooler boxes in various capacities: 8 litres, 12 litres, and 96 litres to these provinces, as committed in the donation.

Before Vietnam, Zuellig Pharma has donated eZCooler to Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
