WB funds VN’s higher education development

The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) and the World Bank (WB) on December 16 in Hanoi signed a financing agreement and related legal documents for the Higher Education Development Policy Credit valued at $50 million - the second operation in a programmatic series of three credits.

The program as a whole is designed to support implementation of the Vietnamese Government’s “Higher Education Reform Agenda.”

SBV Governor Nguyen Van Giau said this operation aims to strengthen governance and accountability, rationalize financing, improve quality of teaching and research, and enhance transparency in financial management within the higher education sector. 

Ms. Victoria Kwakwa, the WB Country Director for Vietnam, welcomed the Government’s effort for comprehensive cooperation and enhancement of standards for the country’s higher education.
