Vietnamese, Chinese PMs talk ties

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang have affirmed that the two countries will work together in promoting further their comprehensive strategic partnership.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung on September 2 held talks with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on the sidelines of the China- ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and the 10th China-ASEAN Business-Investment Summit (CABIS) in Nanning City, Guangxi Province, China.

The Chinese PM highly valued the attendance of the Vietnamese PM at the events, saying this has contributed to the two nations’ relationship in particular and that between China and ASEAN in general.

PM Dung spoke of the great achievements of China in recent years and its preparations for the expo. After ten years, these events have created favorable conditions for ASEAN nations and China to boost up their relations.

In terms of the two nations’ relations, PM Nguyen Tan Dung asserted that strengthening and accelerating the comprehensive strategic partnership with China is the consistent and long-term policy of the Vietnamese Party and State.

In term of trade and economics, the two sides were unanimous in raising two-way trade value to US$60 billion by 2015 and apply measures to narrow trade deficit of Viet Nam.

They agreed to launch big economic projects to connect traffic between the two countries as well as enhance cooperation between agencies.

They also agreed on the need to work together in maintaining peace and stabiliy in the East Sea, managing the situation at sea and dealing with arising incidents in a satisfactory manner.

They consented to address sea-related disputes on the basis of the Viet Nam-China agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues, international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and the spirit of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), working towards the building of a Code of Conduct (COC).

They suggested using and bringing into full play the hot line between the two Ministries of National Defense and the fisheries management agencies to deal with any emerging incidents.

PM Dung invited the Chinese Premier to pay an official visit to Viet Nam and he accepted with pleasure.

The same day, PM Dung met with Governor of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Chen Wu and Governor of Yunnan Li Jiheng.
