Vietnam to build 30 geo-parks by 2030

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung approved a project to develop and recognise 25-30 geological parks nationwide between now and 2030.

The project will be implemented in 37 cities and provinces, including Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Son La, Hoa bInh, Haiphong, Hanoi, Khanh Hoa, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, among others.

According to the project planners, research will be conducted to to preserve, develop and manage geological parks and improve regulations on the preservation and exploitation of geological heritage sites. There will also be an effort to increase international cooperation in the area.

In the first six years of the project, the five to seven parks will be built and recognised as national geological parks. Two to three others will be nominated for recognition by the United Nations Organisation for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO).

From now to 2030, Vietnam plans to continue expanding its network of geo-parks across the country.
