The discussion panel will comprise experts and officials from the Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), and local and international companies.

The discussion is part of this year’s Vietnam-Japan Economic Summit (VJES) hosted by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), JETRO, and Nikkei Business Publication (Nikkei BP), with support from the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Parliamentarians Caucus, the Japanese Embassy, JICA, as well as ministries, organisations and provinces from both countries.

The summit will be held during September 4-6.

After ten years as strategic partners and 40 years of diplomatic relations, Vietnam and Japan have maintained a very close relationship in terms of development and industry.

Japan has been a key partner in Vietnam’s realisation of numerous goals and ambitions.

According to a study by JICA and the National Economics University (NEU), Vietnam needs a “policy response with concrete numbers and timetables to immediate industrial problems and the skills to design such a response.”

They added that Vietnam needed “a comprehensive long-term industrialisation strategy coupled with master plans for specific key industries based on this strategy.”

The prime ministerial Decision No. 1043/QD-TTg, which approved Vietnam’s industrialisation strategy in terms of its cooperation with Japan toward 2020, with a vision through 2030, has been met with policymakers and entrepreneurs from both countries looking for new ways to encourage industrialisation in Vietnam.

At VJES 2013, CIEM and other speakers will highlight industries that serve as the backbone of the strategy, including electronics, agricultural machinery and products, seafood processing, shipbuilding, environmental conservation technologies, and automobiles and automobile parts manufacturing.

The expert panel at VJES will discuss the responsibilities of both governments in realising the industrialisation plan.

VJES expects more than 300 guests, including business leaders, policy-makers, and government officials, who will meet to discuss topics of importance, as well as have the opportunity to browse local and joint venture manufacturers’ exhibition booths and visit industrial parks.

Provinces across Vietnam will join the event to showcase investment opportunities, with 15 provincial people’s committees already registered.
