Japanese retailer AEON is planning to build its second shopping mall in Hanoi in 2017. The mall, designed with a total capital sum of $200 million, is expected to start operation, in 2019.
On February 22, AEON representatives attended a work session with Nam Tu Liem district’s leaders and Nam Thang Long Industrial Park’s management authority to survey the area. AEON proposed the authority to speed up the work progress chart of six roads around the industrial park to create a convenient infrastructure once the mall comes into operation.
On October 28, 2015, AEON held a grand opening ceremony for its first-ever shopping mall in Long Bien district, in Hanoi, into operation.
AEON Mall Long Bien, lying on 9.6 hectares, has the total investment value of $200 million and offers visitors a total shopping and recreational area of approximately 110,000 square metres.
The first AEON shopping mall in Vietnam, which was opened in January 2014, is located in Tan Phu district, Ho Chi Minh City, while the second was inaugurated ten months later in the southern province of Binh Duong.
On January 7, 2015, the company organised the ground-breaking ceremony for the second shopping mall in Ho Chi Minh City, named AEON Mall Binh Tan. The developer is speeding up project’s construction progress in order that it would be started operation in June 2016.
AEON also operates one shopping mall each in Cambodia and Indonesia. The company plans to open its second facility in Cambodia in the summer of 2018, and two more in Indonesia after 2016.
Subsequent to successful expansion, the Japanese retailer will have nine malls in Southeast Asia. Vietnam is considered AEON’s priority destination, with the largest number of shopping centres in the region.
Headquartered in Mihama-ku, Chiba, AEON is the largest retailer in Asia with a network of around 300 consolidated subsidiaries and 26 equity-affiliated companies, ranging from convenience store chain "Ministop" and supermarkets to shopping malls and specialty stores.
