Speaking at the ceremony, Lao PM Thongsing Thammavong asserted that the project, invested by the Viet Nam National Chemical Group, has manifested the Vietnamese Party and Government’s interests in developing the traditional relations with Laos and is expected to promote Lao socio-economic development.

Thanks to efforts and close cooperation between the two Parties, Governments, business communities and peoples, the economic and trade relations between the two nations have been enhanced, said PM Nguyen Tan Dung, adding that Viet Nam has become one of the largest investors in Laos.

When the project comes into operation, it will create more jobs, contribute to the State budget and accelerate the local socio-economic development, especially at Khammounan, he revealed.

In addition, the project also creates a new force in the two sides’ bilateral relationship, consolidating and developing the traditional and comprehensive relations between Viet Nam and Laos, he confirmed.

He proposed the Lao Government license the Viet Nam National Chemical Group's expansion project for sufficient supply sources as well as giving it preferential policies and mechanisms in terms of tax and customs procedures.

The Potassium Chloride Salt Project, located on an area of 10 square kilometers, has a total investment of US$522 million. Of the figure, US$105 million is poured by the Viet Nam National Chemical Group and the rest will be contributed by Vietnamese commercial banks. The designed capacity of the project is to produce 320,000 tons of salt per year.
