According to Ngo Thi Thanh Vy, deputy general director of Long An International Port Management and Operations JSC, currently, Long An International Port is exploiting domestic containers from the north, central and south and vice versa.
"We will start deploying international transportation in 2025," said Ngo Thi Thanh Vy, deputy general director of Long An International Port (LAIP) Management and Operations JSC.
Vy was quoted during a tour of the LAIP site for investors on November 1. The excursion was organised as part of the 2024 Vietnam Logistics Conference, organised by VIR from October 31 to November 1 in Ho Chi Minh City.

"When opening a new route, shipping lines must be calculated carefully. LAIP is gradually investing efforts to provide customers with the best solution," said Vy.
LAIP will connect domestic and international trade with the Mekong Delta region and Long An province. The port will also connect goods and warehouses with provinces in the Mekong Delta region and Ho Chi Minh City, and the Southeast region with the Cambodian market.
According to Vy, currently about 70-75 per cent of goods in the Mekong Delta region transported by road or through ports in Ho Chi Minh City and Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.
"The Mekong Delta is a massive market for business as well as a focal point for agricultural exports. However, the area is a major bottleneck, lacking an adequate logistics system to export goods," she said. "This is wasteful because transportation usually accounts for 30-40 per cent of costs, depending on location and the type of product."
Goods passing through LAIP do not have to bear infrastructure fees, meaning goods transported through the port will save 10-30 per cent on transportation costs.
Anand Awasthi, procurement executive at Valency International Vietnam, spoke of the many advantages LAIP has to entice businesses.
"The most important thing is the location, and LAIP has a very advantageous location. The second most important is the service costs, which are also favourable," said Awasthi.
Valency International Vietnam already has a long-term agreement with LAIP and Awasthi hopes to see further cooperation in the future.
Vo Quoc Huy, chairman of LAIP JSC, spoke about the port's maim investor, Dong Tam Group. "There is currently no other large-scale seaport in the Mekong Delta region. Dong Tam Group invested in LAIP to help businesses in the region transport their goods quickly and efficiently," he said.
