Koreans captured for using fake credit cards to steal money in Vietnam

Three Korean men have been arrested by Hanoi police for using fake credit cards to appropriate money.

Kim Young Yun, 41, Kim Seing Hyun, 34, and Yang Dong Kook, 53, were prosecuted and kept in custody for “appropriating property by using computers, media and Internet networks” under Article 226b of the Penal Code, police officers said.

The three suspects committed the crime by using fake credit cards on the point-of-sale (POS) device to steal money.

Kim Seing Hyun frequently traveled to Vietnam to sell cosmetics, officers said.

He met Kim Seing Hyun and Yang Dong Kook on a social media site before the three started plotting their illegal act.

They then contacted a group of Vietnamese, who provided them with two POS devices and would be paid 50 percent of the stolen amount of money in return, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

The three Korean suspects came to Vietnam through Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi on November 23, bringing along the necessary equipment to execute their plan.

They carried out transactions worth over VND1 billion (US$44,360) and stole a total of VND300 million ($13,308) between November 24 and 17, according to police.

The case is still under investigation.
