Iron and steel exports since the beginning of this year have been continuously setting records. In August, iron and steel exports of all kinds reached 1.53 million tonnes, worth nearly $1.5 billion, up 33.8 per cent in volume and 35.2 per cent in value over the previous month.
Compared to the same month last year, export value was 2.5 times higher. This month also broke the historical record for the highest export value of iron and steel of all kinds and marked the second consecutive month that it exceeded $1 billion.
According to data from the General Department of Customs, with an increase in orders for many types of steel, by the end of August, the country exported 8.54 million tonnes of iron and steel with a value of nearly $7.1 billion, up 43.4 per cent in volume and 127 per cent in value on-year.
The products mainly exported to the ASEAN market reached 2.7 million tonnes, unchanged on-year. China ranked second with 1.8 million tonnes, down 13.2 per cent.
Meanwhile, exports of this group of products increased significantly to the EU and US. Specifically, exports to the EU reached 1.43 million tonnes, up 7.5 times, to the US reached 540,000 tonnes, up four times over the same period last year.
