The Hung Kings Festival is held annually (from the eighth to the eleventh days of the third lunar month), to honour the legendary founders of the nation. The main festival day has been a public holiday in Vietnam since 2007.
In his speech, Chairman of the Phu Tho provincial People’s Committee, Chu Ngoc Anh, stressed the significance of the Hung Kings’ death anniversary and honouring great contribution of the legendary founders of Van Lang – the first State in Vietnam’s history - as well as of ancestors who died for national independence.
The speech demonstrates the entire nation’s desire for peace and international solidarity, as well as the sound leadership of the Party and the nation’s unity in the renewal efforts to make the country more prosperous.
With profound gratitude towards ancestral merits, President Sang and other delegates respectfully offered incense, flowers and gifts to ancestors who greatly contributed to founding the country and wished for prosperity and longevity.
On the same day, all localities having Hung Kings temples burn incense in commemoration of the founders of Vietnam.
During the festival, a wide range of sports and cultural activities will be held at the Hung Kings Temple, including a photo exhibition, a Xoan singing festival, a Chung cake making contest, a North-West tourism fair, a cultural camp, a fireworks display, a music and poem night, a volleyball tournament, and a tennis tournament.
On the occasion, Phu Tho wants to popularise two world cultural heritage values recognised by the UNESCO – Xoan singing and worshipping rituals of the Hung Kings
The organising board said more than 7-8 million visitors across the country have flocked to Phu Tho to offer incenses so far this year.
