Concretizing science and technology projects

During his meeting with Korean Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning Choi Mun Ki, Deputy PM Nhan noted that cooperation in science and technology between the two countries has been developing positively over the past time.

With the assistance of Korean Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) and relevant agencies, the Government of Viet Nam has chosen a 25ha site for the construction of a similar institute in a bid to boost the development of this area.

Deputy PM Nhan hoped that the Korean side would provide non-refundable aid so that the project would be kicked off since 2014; supports Viet Nam to build cyber university and organize creative robocon and ICT playgrounds for the Vietnamese youth.

He also informed the host about the project to officially teach Korean language in schools.

To strengthen cooperation in science and technology, Minister Choi Mun Ki asked the two sides to enhance contacts and dialogues at ministerial or deputy ministerial-level.

Labor cooperation

In his meeting with Minister of Labor and Employment Phang Ha Nam, Deputy PM Nhan highlighted the significant contribution of labor cooperation to the development in respective countries.

Since 2004, Viet Nam has sent around 63,000 workers to the Northeast Asian country under the Employment Permit System (EPS).

However, since 2011, many workers have completed their labor contracts without returning home. To address the problem, the Vietnamese Government has increased the administrative fine to VND 100 million (nearly US$5,000) instead of the current VND 3 million (or nearly US$150) against those who violate the contracts.

A laborer who wants to go to work in the Republic of Korea will have to leave VND 100 million (nearly US$5,000) as deposit.

The Government is also mulling over measures to stop selecting workers for the Korean market from localities having high rate of staying there illegally during a period of one year .

The Government has set up a labor management office manage Vietnamese laborers and limit the number of Vietnamese workers not returning home after their labor contracts expire.

Deputy PM Nhan hoped that Korea’s relevant agencies would coordinate closely with Vietnamese partners to carry out the above measures.
