By 2020 both terminals at Danang International Airport are expected to be overloaded |
On November 1, the Danang People’s Committee submitted a document to the Ministry of Transport requesting it to approve Dang International Airport’s planning outline built by Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, and simultaneously arrange capital to build the third terminal for the airport.
According to the plan, the airport will welcome 13 million passengers and handle 50,000 tonnes of cargo by 2020, and these figure increased by 28 million and 200,000 tonnes by 2030.
However, in reality, the city estimates that the airport will likely welcome 13.3 million passengers this year, exceeding the expected capacity in 2020.
Besides, with the existing increasing speed, passenger and cargo figures are expected to increase by 10-20 per cent on average per annum, leading to the overloading of both existing terminals (T1 and T2).
Thus, the city proposed building the third terminal with the annual capacity of 10-15 million passengers, while simultaneously upgrading existing terminals.
Danang International Airport has been named as the best airport in terms of service quality by the CAAV, following a survey of nearly 21,000 passengers.
The second and third positions belong to Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat International Airports, respectively.
The airport in Danang received an average score of 4.19, while Noi Bai scored 4.13 and Tan Son Nhat 3.96.
