Despite receiving an extension, Apex Vietnam has delayed in paying tax arrears worth VND431 million ($18,988), excluding late payment fines.

Earlier in December 2014, the Binh Duong Taxation Department issued a decision to extend the deadline for the company to pay tax arrears, late tax interest (a 0.03 per cent per day interest is added in case the taxpayer fails to pay by the deadline specified by the authorities) and the late payment fine.

According to the decision, before May 2014, the company had to complete the payment of VND883.04 million ($38,903), including VND446.9 million ($19,688) of personal income tax, VND418.6 million ($18,441) of value-added tax (VAT), VND16.2 million ($713.7) of late payment interest, and VND1.3 million ($57.27) of fine.

At the time, the company missed the deadline, thus the taxation department gave them an extension until May 2016. However, to date, the company has only completed the payment of VND452.04 million ($19,914), forcing the hands of the authorities.

Accordingly, the tax enforcement measures started on October 2, 2017 and will continue until the company completes payments.

Along with delaying tax payments, in January 2015, more than 600 workers of the company went on strike over continuously being forced to work overtime without supplying the dinners. The Korean manager was reported to scold employees who protested to work overtime.
