Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung arrived in Phnom Penh on April 2 to attend the 20th Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at the invitation of Cambodian PM Samdec Hunsen.

He is accompanied by Minister and Chairman of the Government Office Vu Duc Dam, Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh, Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang, and Minister of Labour, Invalid and Social Affairs Pham Thi Hai Chuyen, and many other senior officials.

Vietnam’s participation in the summit shows the country’s consistent policy of being a proactive and responsible member of ASEAN and significantly contributing to common issues in the interest of the regional grouping.

This also shows Vietnam’s determination to speed up the process of building an ASEAN Community by 2015, the implementation of the blueprint on ASEAN Connectivity, especially key projects on infrastructure, and agreements on trade facilitation and liberalisation, as well as the implementation of the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) Work Plan 2.

The summit, due to take place in Phnom Penh on April 3-4, will approve a number of statements to increase ASEAN’s central role in addressing regional issues.
