The US Agency for International Development (USAID), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the European Union (EU) have announced plans to grant $3.9 million to Vietnam to help the country carry out a project promoting sustainable development.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI), the managing agency for the project, will contribute $228,000. The project will be implemented in Hanoi and selected provinces over four years.

It is hoped to increase the technical capacity of the MPI, the Ministry of Finance (MoF), the Ministry of Transport (MoT) and provinces in integrating green growth into planning.

The project is also hoped to contribute to increasing policy makers and businesses’ awareness of green growth and sustainable development, of policy analysis in finance, investment and other barriers to business, green growth, and to supporting policy dialogues.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung asked the MPI to coordinate with relevant agencies and the office of the UNDP in Vietnam to implement the project and ensure that the funds are used effectively.
