Mong Duong II connected to the national power grid

Today, AES-VCM Mong Duong Power Company Limited completed a significant milestone – synchronisation of the gross 620 megwatt first unit of the Mong Duong II BOT Power Project to the national 500kV electrical grid.

The Mong Duong II, with two units and the total gross capacity of 1,240MW is currently under construction in the northern province of Quang Ninh’s Cam Pha city. The total investment for the project is approximately $2 billion, with the US’ AES Corporation  holding 51 per cent, POSCO Energy (30 per cent) and CIC (19 per cent).

The Mong Duong II continues to progress very well with an average of 5,500 people working on the project every day, in which over 5,000 people are local Vietnamese, with over 34 million man-hours completed.

After completion of construction and commissioning activities in the second half of 2015, the Mong Duong II will be the first and largest BOT coal-fired power plant in Vietnam. It is forecasted to produce over 7.6 billion kWh of electricity annually.
