Celebrities receive ‘Men of the Year 2014' awards

Vietnamese men from the areas of culture, sport, architecture and gastronomy, besides business, were honoured at the "Men of the Year 2014" awards ceremony held in HCM City on Monday.

The Team of the Year title was awarded to film director Quang Huy and actors Son Tung, Pham Quynh Anh, Hua Vi Van and Ngo Kien Huy, besides Hari Won who starred in the film Chang Trai Nam Ay (The Man in the Past).

The Architect of the Year title went to Vo Trong Nghia, who is famous nationwide and internationally for his environment-friendly buildings.

Ngo Thanh Hoa won the Chef of the Year award, while Tran Bao Son won the Actor of the Year title.

Thach Kim Tuan won the Sportsman of the Year award, while singer Duc Tuan was named Singer of the Year.

"Those honoured men have had big influence on the society. I hope the scale of the awards will be enlarged in the future and will become the most prestigious prize for men", said Do Doan Phuong, deputy editor-in-chief of the Sports and Culture Newspaper, one of the event's organisers.

The "Men of the Year" awards was first launched in 2005 by Sports, Culture and Men magazine. The publication's journalists vote for the candidates based on different criteria, including their professionalism, contribution to their field and influence on people.

Other people were also honoured for their outstanding performance over the past year, including maths professor Ngo Bao Chau, film directors Tran Anh Hung and Phan Dang Di, and singer Tung Duong.
