Fabio De Cillis, trade commissioner, director of the Italian Trade Agency in Ho Chi Minh City had an opening speech of the Italian Design Day 2024 |
This event served as a multilateral cultural bridge and demonstrated the connection between organisations in Italy and experts and designers in Vietnam. Such activities open up more opportunities for cooperation in design, especially in conservation.
According to Fabio De Cillis, trade commissioner, director of the Italian Trade Agency in Ho Chi Minh City, architectural trends are constantly being updated.
“Following new trends and applying the most advanced techniques is necessary, but preserving the identity and beauty of the past is equally important. There are many ways to build a city and connect cities together. But the best way is to use modern techniques and technology to preserve and promote traditional characteristics. This is the goal we want to help Vietnam achieve,” Cillis said.
According to Cillis, Vietnam is a rapidly developing country, with economic development in many fields, transportation infrastructure is increasingly invested and innovated. On the other hand, this rapid development creates the risk of losing long-standing good values. Therefore, preserving heritage and history is critical for the country.
“We organise many exhibitions in Italy related to furniture, marble, ceramics and also sponsor Vietnamese businesses to attend and connect. Through this year's IDD event, we hope to seek opportunities to cooperate in restoration and preservation projects with local units and organisations,” he added.
