Car buyers get down to business

Massive sales promotion roll-outs by car joint ventures are tickling buyers in the right spots.

This month, US-backed GM Vietnam offered attractive price discounts to diverse car brands it manufactures, imports and sells in the Vietnamese market.

For instance, the customers can save VND197 million ($9,400) when buying Captiva LT at around VND683.5 million ($32,500).

Also, Orlando saw its price sagging VND52.5 million ($2,500) to VND643.5 million ($30,600), pick-up brand Colorado and sedan Cruze saw their prices down VND10 million ($476) each to VND719 million ($34,200) and VND509.5 million ($24,200), respectively.

The move is part of GM Vietnam’s demand stimulating programme.

Apart from favourable price terms, from May 1 to the end of June, 2013 purchasers of GM Vietnam’s Chevrolet brand will have a chance to secure worthy prizes. The first prize is a Chevrolet Orlando LT which fetches VND696 million ($33,100).

Besides GM Vietnam, Vina Mazda also applies May 2013 promotion programme to Mazda 2, Mazda 3, Mazda 6, Mazda CX-9 and Mazda BT-50. Accordingly, purchased cars will be additionally installed with DVD system, camera, LED light and price discounts, all worth around VND30 million ($1,430).

Vina Mazda’s promotion programme is applied at the company’s showroom system across the country with seven showrooms in the north, six in the central region, eight in the south and Mazda’s authorised dealer system.

Vina Mazda figures show that the company’s sales volume quadrupled in the first four months of 2013 with 725 cars. In April alone, Mazda CX5 was among top five MPVs/SUVs in sale volumes with 84 units, up 26 units against March.

To enrich customer choice, this May the company launches Mazda CX5 model in two new colours.

According to Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), up to 8,782 car units were sold in the domestic market in April 2013, including 3,118 cars and 5,664 trucks, surging 26 per cent on-year.

Toyota led the market with 2,772 cars being sold, jumping 69 per cent on-year, Thaco Truong Hai ranked second with 2,270 units, Ford came third with 686 units, leaping 216 per cent on-year, and Honda sold out 168 units.

Sales promotion programmes are forecast to hold on in several months ahead to fuel market demands.
