23 CapitaLand volunteers including board members, senior management, and staff visited the school and joined teachers and students for the new school year opening ceremony.
To mark the start of the school year, the company gave out schoolbags and stationary to all 170 students.
The event is part of CapitaLand’s My Schoolbag programme supported by the CapitaLand Hope Foundation (CHF), the philanthropy arm of the company.
The Nang Yen Hope School was built in 2011 when CHF donated $105,000 to upgrade the old school on build new facilities. This was part of a total $157,000 promised donation to Phu Tho province.
Olivier Lim, group deputy CEO, CapitaLand Limited, said: “As we continue to grow our business in Vietnam, we are committed to giving back to the local community. CapitaLand knows that our business is hinged upon the health and prosperity of the communities in which we operate.”
CapitaLand CEO Chen Lian Pang commented at the start of the programme in 2011: “We are committed to giving time and attention to students, not only money. We are going to have a presence and make the effort. The schoolbags we are donating today symbolise every child’s potential to achieve greatness through education.”
“The company’s programme reaches out to nearly 70,000 children in countries across the world, including Singapore, China, India, Japan, and Malaysia. We hope these schoolbags give the students at Nang Yen Hope School a joy for learning and helps them get a headstar in life,” said Tan Seng Chai, the group’s chief corporate officer and executive director of CHF.
More than 2,000 CapitaLand staff volunteered over 19,000 hours participating in various volunteering activities across Asia in 2012.
