15,000th supermarket retrofitted with Honeywell’s eco-friendlier refrigerant

Genetron Performax LT, also known as R-407F, was introduced in 2009, and is a non-ozone depleting and lower-global-warming refrigerant designed to replace R-404A, R-507, R-407A and R-22 refrigerants that are being phased out due to regulation in Europe aimed at reducing global warming impacts from refrigerants. It can be used in retrofits and new supermarket installations.

During a long-term test conducted by ASDA, one of the leading supermarket chains in the United Kingdom, Genetron Performax LT consumed 9 per cent less energy than systems using R-407A, and around 14 per cent less than systems running R-404A in medium temperature.

“The global refrigeration industry has made a major commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as evidenced by the estimated €50 million ($53.28 million) in energy savings to-date that it has secured for customers. Genetron Performax LT has the best combination of capacity, GWP, efficiency and mass flow to help customers achieve energy saving and emission reduction,” said Dr. Patrick Amrhein, marketing director for Honeywell Fluorine Products in Europe, Middle East, Africa and India.

Honeywell projects that by end of 2016, Genetron Performax LT has saved more than 10 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, equal to eliminating greenhouse gas emissions from more than 5 million cars.

In the EU, systems that were placed on the market before 2022 can be retrofitted with Genetron Performax LT, and service is available indefinitely. Genetron Performax LT can be used in new systems for commercial use below 40kW and in all industrial installations after 2022.
