The Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society has celebrated the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day (May 8th) and 150 years since the foundation of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

The celebration with the topic “150 years of actions for humanity” took place on May 5th in Hanoi.

The Vietnam Red Cross Society joined the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in 1957 and has made an active contribution to the common movement ever since.

From 2007 to 2012, the society mobilized nations, organizations, businesses and individuals across the world to support more than 180 billion for domestic efforts to overcome consequences of natural disasters in the country.

In addition, the society receives some US$ 40 million from domestic and international sources to implement 30 projects every year.

In 2013, the society focuses on the programme “Drops of pink blood” in 2013 summer (a blood donation campaign) and raising fund for the “Bank of Cow”, a nation-wide project to provide cow to poor famers.

Particularly, some 600,000 are expected to participate in the “Drops of pink blood” in 2013 and at least 300,000 units of blood will be donated from May 8th to September 2nd, 2013.
