The 600W+ Photovoltaic Open Innovation Ecological Alliance was announced last week – a formation of 39 companies that aims to create a new and innovative ecosystem through open collaboration, synergising the main resources of the industry chain, and integrating core processes such as research, development, manufacturing, and applications.
The alliance agrees to bring more value to customers and promote sustainable development of the industry in which open innovation is critical.
Trina Solar, the biggest manufacturer in the alliance, has said the organisation will build “products, systems, and standards for a next-generation technology platform, committing to maximise customer values of 600W+ ultra-high-power modules and other related solutions.”
Photovoltaics – the conversion of light into electricity using semiconducting materials that exhibit the photovoltaic effect – is becoming one of the strongest driving forces for energy transformation. Best known as a method for generating electric power by using solar cells to convert energy from the sun into a flow of electrons, solar cells produce direct current electricity from sunlight which can be used to power equipment or to recharge a battery, for example.
Member companies of the alliance come from all streams of the industrial value chain, such as silicon, wafers, cells, modules, trackers, inverters, materials, and equipment manufacturers.
