Accordingly, the Monsanto Fund committed VND3.2 billion ($153,369) to the project to enable thousands of primary and secondary school children to improve their literacy skills and education via access to new libraries and books. The partnership is being implemented in Thai Nguyen province in the north, Binh Dinh province in the central, and Long An and Tra Vinh provinces in the Mekong Delta.
“We are committed to partnering and enabling farmers and their families to improve their lives, and are thus supporting efforts to enhance the educational opportunities for farmers’ children in the rural communities in which we operate,” said Juan Farinati, vice president, Monsanto Asia-Pacific.
“With support from partners like Monsanto Fund, we help girls in disadvantaged situation to pursue their schooling we believe children will have more chances to reach their full potential, and contribute to their community and the world,” said Le Tien Phong, Room to Read Vietnam director.
The Monsanto Fund has a history of community support in Vietnam. In 2010 and 2011, in partnership with NGO Vietnam Red Cross & Public NGO under the Ministry of Education and Training, Monsanto Fund helped improve lives of 2,000 rural households via support to improve sanitation conditions in Hoa Binh province, and enable alternative sources of incomes via agriculture and livestock tools in four rural communities via the commitment of $200,000 from the Monsanto Fund.
