At the Vietnam-UK Education Cooperation Forum taking place in London, Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue was also accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh; Nigel Evans, deputy speaker of the UK House of Commons; Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son; Chairman of the National Assembly Committee for Culture and Education Nguyen Dac Vinh; Prof. Steve Smith, British Ambassador for International Education; and Nguyen Hoang Long, Ambassador of Vietnam to the United Kingdom.
This is the second time that the NEU and ACCA continued their MoU to promote sustainable educational development activities in the coming time.
From their very first days in Vietnam, the ACCA and the NEU have had many exchange programmes to learn experiences with major universities around the world, educational forums, international conferences, seminars, periodic professional training courses, and scholarship programmes.
On the basis of the achieved results and to raise the cooperation between the two sides to a closer and more comprehensive level, the NEU and ACCA signed an extension of the MoU |
Based on these previous successes, as well as the implementation of the MoU between the NEU and ACCA signed in 2017, the introduction of the full-time Audit Integrated ACCA Qualification at the Advanced Education Programme has opened a period of deeper strategic cooperation for both the university and the association, helping students to master academic knowledge to be able to apply in different fields of work. They also have had access to practical content and learned how to apply it to the real world while pursuing a professional international qualification such as ACCA.
The content of this MoU this time, in addition to expanding the existing cooperation activities between the two parties, was related to enhancing the internationalisation and professionalism of the university's training programmes.
Attending the signing ceremony, there was also the special participation of the leaders of relevant departments, one of which was the presence of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, who is also one of the six first individuals to received the title of Honourary Member of ACCA in 2011 in recognition of his great contributions to the development of the accounting and auditing industry in Vietnam.
The renewal ceremony of the NEU and ACCA at the Vietnam-UK Education Cooperation Forum in London was witnessed by many important representatives |
The MoU will officially introduce the full-time Audit Integrated ACCA Qualification from the school year 2023. The programme is implemented in cooperation with ACCA.
Students will be able to start studying the first nine subjects right from the start of the first year and will be awarded the Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business when completing these nine subjects with ACCA. They have then the opportunity to earn an additional Bachelor of Applied Accounting degree from Oxford Brookes University.
The first nine subjects of the ACCA programme include Accounting in Business, Management Accounting, Financial Accounting, Corporate and Business Law, Performance Management, Vietnam Taxation, Financial Reporting, Auditing and Assurance Services, and Financial Management.
Assoc. Prof. Bui Duc Tho, chairman of the University Council at NEU shared, “We are very pleased to witness the good results of the long-term cooperation relationship between NEU and ACCA. The official introduction of the programme reaffirms the prestige of the training activities of the university, as well as further promotes the goal of international integration in the university's higher education."
Tho continued, "We believe that the cooperation of the two sides will help improve the quality of teaching and learning of the university and offer a solid foundation for students in the future. At the same time, the programme will also help save resources and costs for students and their families while ensuring that they can simultaneously earn a regular university degree and pursue international certificates."
According to the cooperation agreement between the two parties, ACCA will support the university's lecturers to improve their professional competence, develop lesson plans, and provide information on training and research in the fields of accounting, auditing, and finance. From there, the teaching staff will be constantly updated with new knowledge and trends in the industry.
Renjith Varma, head of ACCA Mainland Southeast Asia at ACCA said, “The programme with the NEU is part of ACCA's long-term strategy to help Vietnamese students access in-depth knowledge and skills in accounting, auditing, and finance in accordance with international standards, especially as Vietnam is aiming to officially apply international standards in different types of enterprises. Every year, ACCA receives a huge number of new students and alumni of the NEU to join the ACCA student community. The introduction of the programme will help students shorten the preparation time, be ready to enter professional work after graduation, and soon join the team of experts in this field in Vietnam.”
For students, ACCA will regularly support them to access scholarships, skills training, international student exchanges, financial support, and business connections. Along with owning ACCA certificates early, these will be solid stepping stones to help students fully practice skills, gain experience, and expand career opportunities in the future.
“We are committed to accompanying the school, teachers, and students to have a 4-year journey of real experiences for the children who will directly benefit from this partnership programme,” Varma added.
