Real-time data company DataStax on October 6 signed an MoU with Swinburne Vietnam to help develop data and ICT curriculum, training, and certification modules to cultivate Vietnam's burgeoning tech talent.

The modules will equip students of Swinburne Vietnam with in-demand knowledge and skills relating to computer systems, web development, big data management, programming, and emerging technologies. The partnership aims to enhance the country's ICT and big data ecosystem and advance the skills and employability of the future ICT workforce.

The joint academic program will include workshops, training courses, hackathons, and internship programs created by DataStax. At the same time, the university will issue DataStax certifications and expose students to DataStax's solutions that will equip them for ICT-related careers.

"The partnership will provide an excellent springboard for Vietnamese students to become the driving force of Vietnam's digitization initiatives," said Dr. Hoang Viet Ha, director of Swinburne Vietnam. "With more and more economic sectors embracing digital technology, Vietnam is in a unique position to create a strong digital footprint that will advance our nation towards Industry 4.0."

Thomas Been, chief marketing officer at DataStax said, "We have seen a strong desire to adopt advanced technologies in Vietnam, such as blockchain, AI, and machine learning, which will require more data science experts."

"The partnership we have built with Swinburne Vietnam is crucial in guiding students to operate these advanced technologies effectively. We are honoured to play a role in strengthening the country's digital footprint and its competitiveness with other digital economies across the globe."

The initiative comes as Vietnam ranks first out of 154 countries on the Global Cryptocurrency Adoption Index, indicating that its population has a strong appetite for digitalisation. National authorities have also been keen to develop the country's digital capabilities, announcing a national policy to advance AI research, development, and application.

These factors have also led DataStax to recognise the leading role that Vietnam is playing in the region's digital transformation journey.
