The city plans to establish national level I and regional level II logistics centres, as well as specialised centres, to provide efficient logistics and transshipment services. These developments are set to bolster domestic production and import-export activities in Danang and its surrounding regions, offering competitive advantages for international cargo transiting via the East-West economic corridor.
By the end of 2025, ports in Danang like Lien Chieu will boast significant upgrades |
Currently, Danang hosts over 1,000 businesses engaged in logistics services, ranking it sixth among Vietnam’s top provinces and cities with a dense concentration of logistics firms. According to the city’s development plan for 2021-2030, with a vision towards 2050, Danang is set to transform into a logistics hub, serving as a gateway for road, sea, and air transportation to other localities, ASEAN countries, and internationally along the East-West economic corridor.
The city’s logistics and transport sectors are poised for an annual growth rate exceeding 11 per cent.
Leveraging its strategic location, Danang is also prioritising the development of an integrated logistics service chain. Emphasis is being placed on enhancing air and maritime logistics services, exploiting Danang’s innate strengths in its multimodal logistics service system.
The city plans to establish urban logistics centres catering to wholesale procurement and distribution of consumer goods, addressing the daily needs of residents in Danang and neighbouring areas. A comprehensive, integrated logistics infrastructure is being formalised to meet the burgeoning demand for goods movement in Danang, the Central Highlands provinces, and part of the East-West economic corridor traffic.
This infrastructure aims to ensure seamless connectivity between seaports, airports, cargo transport hubs, and various logistics centres, thus facilitating efficient, rapid goods movement across diverse transport modes at regionally and internationally competitive costs.
The city’s comprehensive plan includes the development of Lien Chieu Port, a significant project that commenced in late 2022.
This 450-hectare facility, designed to accommodate large vessels with capacities ranging from 30,000 to 200,000DWT, is projected to achieve an operational throughput of 50 million tons annually by 2050. The port is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2025.
Vuong Dinh Hue, Chairman of the National Assembly, during his inspection of the Lien Chieu Port highlighted the project’s regional impact.
“This investment transcends Danang, bolstering regional connectivity and playing a vital role in the socioeconomic upliftment of the area. It will alleviate pressure on existing ports and the city’s urban traffic,” he remarked.
The NA chairman further asserted that the development of Lien Chieu Port is integral to Danang’s economic strategy, which focuses on a triad of logistics, industry, and services.
Additionally, Danang is developing comprehensive logistics solutions in air and rail transport, including facilities in the western region of Danang International Airport and at key intersections of national railway and road networks.
These initiatives aim to bolster commercial activities, enhance air transport capabilities, and expand the airport’s role in the global logistics network.
By 2030, the city plans significant upgrades to its aviation infrastructure, targeting a passenger handling capacity of approximately 25 million annually and establishing itself as a specialised air logistics hub.
The long-term vision for 2050 encompasses the completion of a state-of-the-art logistics system, positioning Danang as a national and regional logistics centre. This strategic development aims to elevate Danang into the top tier of international seaport centres in central Vietnam and establish it as a crucial node in Vietnam’s maritime transport routes.
Concurrently, the expansion and modernisation of Danang International Airport are planned, with a focus on diversified functional zones and high-quality services, facilitating global connectivity.
