An archipelago off southern Vietnam has been named one of the best places to visit in Asia in the next 12 months by Lonely Planet.

Con Dao Islands, located about 230 kilometers away from Ho Chi Minh City, ranked fourth on the list of ‘Best in Asia’ by the world’s largest travel guide book publisher.

Considered among Asia’s most favorite destinations, the islands appeal to visitors thanks to their coral gardens that offer Vietnam’s best diving, rewarding hikes in wildlife-rich tropical forests, and a coastline studded with gorgeous white-sand coves, Lonely Planet said on its website.

With improved flight connections from Ho Chi Minh City, the archipelago has become an ideal place to feast on fresh seafood, explore a perfect beach, and revel in a castaway vibe, the site added.

It takes about 45 minutes for a flight from the southern metropolis to Con Dao Islands, long well known for its charming beaches and stunning landscape.

Lonely Planet’s list includes a wide range of choices varying from classical destinations to edge-of-the-map places travelers have probably never heard of.

Other places are Hokkaido (Japan), Jeonju (South Korea), Ipoh (Malaysia), Pemuteran (Indonesia), Trang Islands (Thailand), Meghalaya (India), and Taitung (Taiwan).
