This was highlighted in early July 2012, when Peter Thompson, an expatriate businessman aged 62 in Hanoi, was taken into Vinmec International Hospital with acute chest pains and diagnosed as having acute coronary syndrome.
Staying at Vinmec instead of flying to Thailand for treatment was a tough decision that he had to make as that was the first time he had ever put his life in hands of a Vietnamese hospital.
“Taken into Vinmec in an emergency, I was overwhelmed by fear because everything came so fast. I discussed with my wife about the possibility of hospitalisation in Thailand, but one of the doctors warned me of my serious situation. At that distracting moment, although I did not want to hurt anyone, I had to ask the doctor “Sir, how many patients have you treated? - “More than 5,000”, the doctor replied. And without any hesitation, I decided to be hospitalised there at Vinmec,” he said.
He immediately received surgical procedure by Vinmec cardiology team led by Associate Professor, PhD, MD Nguyen Quang Tuan who is known as the pioneer and founder of interventional cardiac specialty in Vietnam.
Tuan is Vietnamese Society of Interventional Cardiology general secretary cum head of Vietnam National Heart Institute’s C4 Department.
In his sharing with Vinmec medical practitioners and staff before his discharge two days later he revealed, “Having treatment in Vinmec is the wisest decision that I have ever made. The hospital gave me a sense of well-being with its state-of-the-art apparatus, five-star facilities and clean environment. Vinmec is one of the best experiences in my life.”
Handling cardiac emergency and intervention for Thompson is one of the very common examples at the Vinmec International Hospital’s Cardiology Department.
Vinmec, positioned in Hanoi’s Hai Ba Trung district, is the first healthcare facility in the north to possess and adopt the latest two-dimensional digital subtraction angiography (DSA) besides compatible apparatus such as vivid cardiovascular ultrasound system, laboratory machines, etc., which significantly contribute to the hospital’s timely and effective cardiac diagnostic and treatment.
The combination of sophisticated medical technology, modern healthcare environment and highly qualified medical experts of Vinmec always ensures treatments on par with other hospitals in the South East Asia and the world for patients.
Moreover, the expense of a cardiac intervention at Vinmec is just 15 per cent higher than that at other domestic hospitals and is far more economical than overseas treatment.
