Sunset on Ly Son Island |
The animated atmosphere with hundreds of fishing boats at the wharf helped stir our excitement for the next stage of our journey after a long night on the train from Saigon to Quang Ngai City.
Accompanying us were herds of chuon fish dancing on the sea, making us think about the flying fish from the movie ‘Life of Pi.’ After an hour we reached Mu Cu Wharf where we booked our guest house right in front of the wharf.

Hiring two motorbikes, we were off to discover the island. The first destination was An Vinh Communal House – a national relic – which was followed by Hang Pagoda, a sanctuary which gave us much-needed silence to look back into history and burn some incense to pray for local fishermen.
There was a natural well in front of the cave where tourists can enjoy the sweet and fresh water coming out through many layers of rocks and soil.

We seemed to be more energetic than ever, so we continued to ride over onion and garlic fields, discovering Thoi Loi volcano mouth and admiring the sunset at To Vo Cave.
As darkness came over the wharf, we sat obediently waiting for fishing boats returning home so we could buy fresh seafood for our dinner party which was so much fun.

The next day was welcomed by the dawn at Thoi Loi volcano mouth and then we took 40 minutes to reach Be Island. We decided to trek along the beach and decided to jump in the beautifully-clear blue water to mess around and leave all our tiredness and worries behind.
Like the previous night, we came back to the wharf to admire the sunset, local life and the sea before enjoying a grand seafood dinner.
We said goodbye to Ly Son with a promise to come back to learn more about the beauty and history of the land.
