It is estimated that the total investment capital of the new airport will be over VND9 trillion ($391.3 million), including VND1.26 trillion ($54.8 million) for site clearance works.

Nguyen Van Tho, Chairman of Ba Ria-Vung Tau People’s Committee said that the airport is currently located in downtown Vung Tau city. Managed by Vietnam Helicopter Corporation, the airport serves flights for oil exploration and exploitation.

However, the noise and air pollution has been affecting the lives of local people and the surrounding environment. Thus, the province needs to relocate the airport out of the city centre. The relocation is expected to provide more space for urban and economic development, which will contribute to the local socio-economic development.

Go Gang Island is an ideal place for the new airport thanks to its large land fund, prime location, and good connectivity. Go Gang airport will be developed as a special airport to serve the transportation demand of Ba Ria-Vung Tau and ensure national security. Go Gang Airport is built as a grade III heliport, which can be upgraded to a grade II military airport if needed and a grade 3C civil airport in line with International Civil Aviation Organization standards.

The chairman of the province requested the local department to coordinate with the relevant agencies to review the airport plan, the 1/2,000-scale zoning plan as well as other site clearance obstacles for the project.

In addition, the province has worked with Ho Tram Project Co., Ltd. about the development of Ho Tram Airport. The airport aims to transport tourists from domestic airports to attend seminars, visit and stay at The Grand Ho Tram Strip. The distance between Ho Tram and Go Gang is less than 30km.
