Vietnam sent sample tubes to support Germany's coronavirus research programme

6,000 sample tubes have just been transferred by the Vietnamese-German Center of Excellence in Medical Research (VG-CARE) in Hanoi to Germany to support clinical trials of a COVID-19 drug. As planned, on April 1, Tuebingen University in collaboration with the German Universities of Hamburg and Stuttgart will launch clinical trials of coronavirus medication. In order to carry out the research, scientists need sample tubes, but Germany itself does not have enough sample tubes. Therefore, the VG-CARE provided these tools for the research programme.

Working under the Central Military Hospital 108 in Hanoi, the VG-CARE conducts clinical research on infectious diseases caused by bacteria, viruses, and parasites.

The Tropical Medicine Research Institute of Eberhard-Karls University in Tuebingen and Central Military Hospital 108 have been working together for more than 20 years. On the basis of this long-term co-operation, in January 2018, the two units established VG-CARE as an independent research facility for the benefit of the community.

So far, there have been nearly 785,800 cases of infection and 37,820 deaths in the world, while Vietnam has had 204 cases of infection, 55 of which have recovered without a single death. So far Germany has 66,885 infected patients and 645 deaths.
