In October, tuna exports to the US were valued at $17.4 million, up 9 per cent on year, while those to the EU rose to $15.6 million, mostly thanks to the 90 per cent increase in exports to Germany.
Meanwhile, tuna exports to Japan rose 5.4 per cent on year to $1.6 million, and are expected to rise further as Japan’s demand for frozen tuna continues to rise.
Tuna exports to ASEAN countries rose 77 per cent on year in October to $3.3 million. Of this, exports to Thailand were valued the highest at $2.5 million, nearly three times that of last year.
According to VASEP’s forecast, tuna exports to major markets in the coming months will continue to recover, but not by much. VASEP forecasts Vietnam’s 2014 tuna exports to hit $505 million, down 4 per cent on year.
