The contest, whose final round was wrapped up last week, saw the five best video clips selected from 51 entries.
At this event, each of the five finalists made a presentation about his video clip and answered questions from the jury panel under the witness of around 250 participants. The jury board then selected three main prizes and two encouragement prizes.
The first prize – a Sony Vaio laptop, was awarded to Nguyen Van Thanh, a 5th year student from Hanoi University of Industrial Fine Arts with “Nature balance”. His cartoon has expressed vividly and perceivably dark future for humans if they continue to destroy the natural balance for economic growth.
The “Trees’ Talk clip from Stormie Brand group in Hanoi received the second prize, and the third prize was awarded to Nguyen Thanh Trung in Ho Chi Minh City for his: “Heart talk from the city I love”.
“Sustainability – All we need is U” has been initiated and supported by Siemens Vietnam since early June till the end of August 2011 with an aim to increase awareness about sustainability and to appeal the sense of responsibility and responsive actions among youth.
The contest was first launched on June 6, 2011 and after two months and a half, there have been more than 50 video clips loaded for competition on the official website of the contest at http://www.thanhphobenvung.com.vn from students across the country. All of the clips are of high quality and convey key messages that the organising committee would like to target in relation to sustainability.
“We are very pleased with the quality of the contest. Our students are talented and thoughtful. This video contest is significantly meaningful not only in terms of education but also in that it has created a healthy and creative playground for the young generation,” said Vu Khac Vien, a jury member from the Ho Chi Minh City Academy of Theatre and Cinema.
“I won’t sell our future for short-term profit’ - is a very famous saying of our great founder Werner von Siemens. And through this contest, we wish to help raise the awareness about sustainability among students, who are future owners of the country, as well as to call for their sense of responsibility and wise actions from today”, said Erdal Elver, chief executive officer of Siemens Vietnam and chief of the jury panel.
