On October 13, in observance of World Food Day 2011, Standard Chartered Bank Vietnam organised trips for their staff volunteers to Hanoi’s National Hospital of Pediatrics and Ho Chi Minh City’s Tumor Hospital to present gifts and provide free meals for the underprivileged child patients.

World Food Day is annually held on October 16 to commemorate the founding of the United Nations' (UN) Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Together with World Water Day, Earth Hour, World Environment Day, World Food Day is also one of four main events of environment activities of Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) all over the world.

Each year, the event is organised with a different theme. “Food price – from crisis to stability” is chosen to reflect this year’s theme to shed some light on this trend and what can be done to mitigate its impact on the most vulnerable. As part of corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities of the bank, 180 gifts packs and more than 600 charitable lunch sets were handed to the child patients of the two hospitals in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on the occasion of World Food Day.

Along with other CSR initiatives undertaken by the SCB such as “Living with HIV/AIDS” and “Seeing is Believing”, this meaningful activity is a great opportunity for SCB’s staff to express their heart-warming charitable spirit as well as their concerns and contributions to the local community where the bank operates.
