The National Assembly on August 26 approved proposals for the appointment of three deputy prime ministers and two ministers for the current term, with the majority of deputies voting in favour.

The new deputy prime ministers are Nguyen Hoa Binh, Bui Thanh Son, and Ho Duc Phoc, whose positions before the appointments were chief justice of the Supreme People’s Court, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Minister of Finance, respectively.
Deputy Prime Ministers Son and Phoc will continue working as foreign and finance ministers, respectively, while Deputy PM Binh had been relieved of his former post before the appointments.
Along with the two incumbent deputy premiers, Tran Hong Ha and Le Thanh Long, these new appointments have raised the number of deputies to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for the 2021-2026 term to five.
The legislature on the same day simultaneously also voted Do Duc Duy, Secretary of Yen Bai Party Committee, as Minister of Natural Resources and Environment; and Nguyen Hai Ninh, Secretary of Khanh Hoa Party Committee, as Minister of Justice.
Party General Secretary and State President To Lam asked the officials to continue enhancing the noble revolutionary tradition, uphold their moral qualities, stay loyal to the Party, Fatherland, and people, and keep following President Ho Chi Minh’s morality and lifestyle.
He also asked the new officials to try their best to complete all assigned tasks, making positive contributions to the cause of national building and safeguarding in the new situation.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has assigned tasks to the newly appointed deputy prime ministers and ministers. PM Chinh called for their unity, discipline, integrity, innovation, and drastic actions to work with the government to effectively accomplish assigned tasks, especially meeting the goals set by the 13th National Party Congress, providing dedicated service for the nation and its people.
“This will ultimately contribute to the interests of the Party and the nation, the strong development and prosperity of the country and the wellbeing and happiness of the people,” PM Chinh stated.
Under the resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, the average annual economic growth during 2021-2025 shall be 6.5-7 per cent. By 2025, annual GDP per capita shall be $4,700-5,000.
By 2030, the country aims to be a developing country with a modern industry base and upper-middle income. By 2045, Vietnam sets its sights on becoming a high-income developed country.
According to the General Statistics Office, in 2024, the economy’s on-year growth hit 5.66 per cent in the first quarter, 6.93 per cent in the second quarter. The six-month rate ascended 6.42 per cent. The government expects that the economy will climb about 7 per cent this year.
Last year, the economy grew 5.05 per cent, with a scale of $430 billion and per capita income of $4,284, up by $160 as compared to 2022.
