What are the challenges and advantages of taking a leadership position at Microsoft in such a competitive climate?
I joined Microsoft at a good time. It has created outstanding solutions for enterprises through cloud and public cloud services. It has also worked to integrate personal devices into complete software solutions for enterprises. I think Microsoft is the only company in the world capable of integrating professional devices and services in this way.
That said, Microsoft does face challenges in this market. We need to make state agencies and businesses more aware of our current software. Many people think more sophisticated, expensive software is harder to use. In actuality, Microsoft software is easy, more efficient, and highly functional to meet a diversity of demands. We are also striving to improve people’s knowledge of cloud and network security. Greater investment is needed into standardising and centralising hardware infrastructure to build a solid, safe platform for future development.
We are also working to influence people to buy legitimate software products to ensure network security. Through this, businesses can use tools and IT services more effectively, save on costs, and streamline commercial development.
As a consultant and strategist for Microsoft, do you feel a lot of pressure to achieve your goals? How does your previous work experience apply to your job now?
My focus is on strategies to approach and influence IT policy managers and makers in the government and businesses and to promote our solutions. After 20 years working in Vietnam in different roles - commercial, marketing, consulting, and building IT solutions, I hope my extensive experience and knowledge of the market today helps our users make their businesses more effective and profitable.
Currently many of Vietnam’s state agencies and businesses are facing problems and cutting costs. How do you convince them to buy your technology?
Microsoft has numerous cloud solutions to increase productivity. For example Office 365, Lync, Exchange, and Dynamics CRM/AX all support businesses in improving their effectiveness in different ways including lower operating costs and international standard security. Microsoft Cloud solutions help reduce IT and administration costs as well as provide tools to enhance productivity. They also empower local businesses to operate at a speed and level that is globally competitive. Our services also help with competitiveness through greater global reach, document sharing, and facilitating and syncing media, conferences, and emails. Some businesses opt for both a public and private cloud that are symbiotic. Our services are adaptable to and can be applied across most business sectors and models.
Microsoft has been supporting the Vietnamese government in IT infrastructure and smart cities. Could you introduce some of your solutions and services currently running in the country?
We have numerous solutions to improve IT effectiveness and they are aligned with the national IT development plan. National Cloud is a private network that provides a high level of security for incoming and outgoing documents and ensures information safety by improving communications, teamwork, scheduling and preventing spam emails. This is a solid platform for developing and integrating management applications at state agencies and businesses.
Public Cloud is a service on Microsoft Azure that provides enhanced productivity tools such as the aforementioned Office 365, Lync, and others as well as Sharepoint under an international-level security system.
Microsoft also has effective network security solutions for Vietnam, where security is a serious issue needing immediate resolution.
Microsoft also has made its systems compatible with numerous devices such as phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, and Xbox and can integrate them into a company’s software system for higher security levels.
CityNext is a smart city solution which is a private or public cloud that integrates mobile devices to form a single platform for professional applications.
Microsoft is also involved in the education sector with programmes that support teachers, professionals, and students in using public cloud services free of charge and for minimal investment.
