Japan gives aid to Hue climate change project

THUA THIEN - HUE - Japan has donated an official development assistance package of JPY60 million (US$637,000) for a climate change adaptation project in central Thua Thien–Hue Province.

The donation was made via the Japan International Cooperation Agency in Viet Nam. Meanwhile, the province has contributed VND800 million ($37,000) for contingency costs.

According to the province's People's Committee, the project aims to develop community-based disaster management and education to mitigate the risks from climate change impacts.

The project also aims to build a master plan for monitoring floods in the locality.

The project, undertaken by the local Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, commenced this month and will end in July 2016.
