Internet grows to 354.7 million domain name registrations in the second quarter of 2019 |
VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRSN), a global provider of domain name registry services and internet infrastructure, has released that the second quarter of 2019 closed with 354.7 million domain name registrations across all top-level domains (TLDs), an increase of 2.9 million domain name registrations, or 0.8 per cent, compared to the first quarter of 2019. Domain name registrations have grown by 14.9 million, or 4.4 per cent, on-year.
The .com and .net TLDs had a combined total of 156.1 million registrations in the domain name base at the end of the second quarter of 2019, an increase of 1.3 million registrations, or 0.9 per cent, compared to the first quarter of 2019. The .com and .net TLDs had a combined increase of 6.4 million domain name registrations, or 4.3 per cent, on-year. As of June 30, 2019, the .com domain name base totalled 142.5 million, while the .net domain name base totalled 13.6 million registrations.
New .com and .net domain name registrations totaled 10.3 million at the end of the second quarter of 2019, compared to the 9.6 million at the end of the second quarter of 2018.

Besides, total country-code TLD (ccTLD) domain name registrations stood at 158.7 million at the end of the second quarter, an increase of 1.9 million, or 1.2 per cent, compared to the first quarter. ccTLDs increased by 8.9 million registrations, or 6.0 per cent, on-year.

Total new gTLDs (ngTLDs) domain name registrations were 23.0 million at the end of the second quarter, an increase of 0.1 million, or 0.4 per cent, compared to the first quarter. ngTLDs increased by 1.3 million, or 5.9 per cent, on-year. The top 10 ngTLDs represented 53.8 per cent of all ngTLD domain name registrations.
