FPT IS wins big software contract in Laos

This marks a significant step for FPT IS in its penetration into Laos and confirms its competitiveness in international markets, according to the company.

FPT IS won over two leading telecommunications equipments providers from China and one contractor from Thailand to “Implement a Network Operation Centre (NOC)” bid. This result affirms that the “made in Vietnam” application solutions can compete in the international markets.

“We chose FPT IS based on our assessment of its capacity and experience in telecommunications projects. Lao Telcom hopes that by implementing advanced IT technologies we will realise our long-term development targets. Lao Telecom and FPT IS are committed to ensuring the success of this project, and hope we will have more opportunities for further cooperation in the future," said Thongsay Xanexaya, general director of Lao Telecommunication.

Lao Telecommunications is one of four providers of phones, internet services and internal and international telecommunications in Laos.

The NOC system which is researched and developed by FPT IS creates a chance for the telecommunication providers in the region to build and implement the comprehensive network operation and control system.

This project, valued at nearly $1 million, will be deployed over five months.

The NOC project aims to provide the Lao Telecommunication Company with uniform, comprehensive software to manage its wireless, core, and transmission telecommunication networks as well as basic and advanced devices, to consolidate management processes and meet the demands of its customer.

In addition, the system allows upgrading and expanding to 3G and 4G devices for future investment.

Duong Dung Trieu, general director of FPT IS, said: “Winning this bid reaffirms FPT IS’s overall capacity in the IT industry, particularly in the telecommunications sector. It also creates favourable conditions for FPT IS to expand its presence in the Lao IT market, especially for Lao government projects.”

FPT IS previously implemented other large projects for telecommunication service providers in Laos and other countries in the region such as the cost calculation and customer care (FPT.BCCS) system for four telecommunication providers in Cambodia, three ones in Laos and one in Myanmar. Just in telecommunication area, FPT IS software solutions have already attained more than $10 million for the country.  

FPT has been present in Laos since 1999 and deployed many major projects in telecommunications, banking, finance areas.
