DHL Express, the world’s leading express service provider, has pledged its support for the fifth annual H2H Charity Bike Ride 2013, which commenced yesterday morning.

The charity bike project aims to support Vietnam’s underprivileged children and help alleviate the poverty cycle

DHL-VNPT Express will be providing the support vehicle and drivers who will accompany the 20- person strong team on the month long cycling journey from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.  This is the fifth year that the route will be pedaled and is the second year that DHL’s support van will drive alongside beside them.

"At DHL, we are deeply involved in activities where we can touch and make a difference to the lives of the communities that we operate in. Indeed the cause of H2H is commendable and is a perfect match with our global efforts of advocating education,” said Yasmin Aladad Khan, senior vice president, DHL Express Southeast Asia. “Through these progammes we wish to elevate the standard of living and inspire others just as the H2H team does.  We are behind the team whole heartedly and wish them a safe return to Ho Chi Minh City.”

“We received positive feedback from the team last year about the support rendered and we are happy to be able to participate in this good cause again this year,” said Christopher Ong, general director, DHL-VNPT Express. “If there is one thing that would be a great help and assurance to the H2H team is our expertise and capabilities in getting things safely from point A to point B.  This bike ride is no easy feat and the people taking part in this challenge are an inspiration for us all, and we will be there every step of the way to ensure all riders safe passage to the finish line.”

The cycling team, all volunteers, consists of people living in or has close connections to Vietnam. All the funds raised will be shared between a number of deserving organisations including The Children’s Initiative, Saigon Children’s Charity, the ILA Community Network and with the addition of Know One Teach One (KOTO). The group hopes to raise over $30,000 for charity this year. A total of $135,000 was raised over the past four years.
